Growing “Alice’s Cross”

A little while ago I showed you some blocks I’d made using my new “Alice’s Cross” template. I started making them because once the template was designed I knew exactly how I wanted to use it.

Several years ago I stitched this appliqué block, a design by Robyn Falloon

20150605-225029.jpgIn my fabric library I found the perfect border print and put it in the basket with the other fabrics for this quilt. The number of blocks I’ve made has grown, and there’s been an insistent calling from that basket every time I walk past or enter my sewing room. So, this week I measured, cut and stitched the border fabric

20150605-225541.jpgand yesterday, I just needed to see how it looked with the blocks I’ve sewn. (Sorry it’s not pressed – I couldn’t wait!)

20150605-225643.jpgMust say, I’m pretty happy! This is not “the” layout, I just plonked the block down in excited haste. Of course, in that excitement I counted out 5 more blocks required when, as you can see, I only need 4 more, so I’ve cut an extra block. Ah well, it can be the label on the quilt.

Last night, while the fabrics were out, I decided to start cutting leaves and flowers for an appliquéd border. Just need to find a suitable background…….

To all of you who are having one, enjoy the long weekend!

I love your new template and medallion center block. You are so talented. I am such a fan of the paler colors and the Japanese taupes……but then the Kaffe Fassett fabrics charm me too. LOVE IT ALL……esp. when sewn on my red and white polka dotted featherweight. 🙂

Love the quilt Meredithe, do you have any grey fabric left as it would make a beautiful border with leaves and flowers I personally think.

Oh Meredithe it’s lovely. Are you thinking of the appliqué for the grey border? Are you sure it needs it? Lovely colours.

I didn’t like gray a few years ago but do now. Love the blocks and applique. I think I have a gray and pink Mariner’s compass somewhere. Maybe I need to find it and then see what else I can add to it. Thanks for the inspiration!
