When I was searching for squares for last month’s mini, I noticed there were quite a few floral 5″ squares and, of course, that got my Creative Brain going for this month.
I chose 12 floral 5″ squares from my box

then my camera battery died, so there’s no progress shots, just the finished quilt. The idea was to surround the floral square on two sides with small squares, like this:

and I had great fun cutting chosen 3″ squares from my box down to size, didn’t have enough of the right colours so had a good fossick through the overflowing bucket under my machine table
I sent Helen a pic on my phone of them all laid out and suggested it needed sashing

but she said she liked it all jumbled together, so that’s what I did (changed the layout about 10 times!!)

I chose not to put a border on it (who said I was running out of time??!!) and, for some inexplicable reason decided quilting through the floral square would be a good idea…..NOT!

so that was all unpicked (as you can see above – the stitch marks will eventually go away) and I continued on with just simple straight line quilting on my machine with Aurifil 12 thread – nice and easy, just practicing my ditch quilting (I so admire all of you who do fancy quilting on a domestic machine!).

Used another repro for the backing (gotta love using up old fabrics!) and chose a blue for the binding

and on Wednesday afternoon…..Job Done ! (And the observant among you will notice I changed one of the florals – it wasn’t working, so I dived back into the scrap bucked for a different one which did work.)

Be sure to check in with Wendy to see the other quilts made for this month. How did you go?

The quilt ended up making me thing of a Spring garden party, in a cottage garden. Just color and flowers all over the place. A very fun mini!
