17ufosin2017 – The Start

It’s here!  The beginning of our adventure in 2017.  Are you ready?  Have you made your list?

I have one or two, several, quite a few, lots, ok a Heap of ufo’s lurking around the house (can’t say they’re restricted to the sewing room!), so I was able to get 29 ufo’s listed without even thinking too hard, or opening boxes, cupboards or bags (scary, huh??!!)  This idea could go on for years…..18 in 2018, 19 in 2019……!!

So after much deliberation and project in-fighting (“choose me, choose me!” “I was on the list before you” “but I’ve been around the longest”) my infamous list of 17 is a-ready and a-waiting for today!  And here it is……..

1.  Ma Kettle’s jumper:: started last winter but I got sidetracked with socks! (can you believe it?)

12-dscn5253 2.  The Aunt’s Quilt:: yes Anna, it’s on the list!

3.  365 Circles:: I didn’t manage to keep up last year but hope to remedy that here

4.  Brompton Road:: started last Feb I think, “just”(!) needs putting together and quilting

13-dscn5254The next three are all Winter projects (as is #1), hand quilting progression needed::

5.  Wallender

6.  Midnight Garden

7.  Alice’s Cross

14-dscn5256 8.  Improv – Waterfall:: started in a class at Millrose with Lizzie

9.  MSG:: the top is together and many of the elements are made

10.  Steampunk:: all the blocks are made

11.  Ripple Crochet:: one of Lucy’s patterns and started a few year ago (I’ll have to get Helen to remind me how to do it!)

12.  Elwood Rose:: lots of blocks nearly finished and decisions made about a centre

15-dscn525713.  Rainy Days:: started in a class with my friend Kaye and a delightful applique project

14.  Gateaux:: plans are afoot for this block/quilt

15.  Saigon:: having so much fun with this template set (show you some progress soon)

16.  Big 9-patch:: started, oops, two year ago and an easy one to finish (please note that phrase!)

17.  Strawberry Parfait:: yes Helen, she’s made it to the list.  Started in 2003/2004? as a class sample.  I managed to keep ahead of my students until the last class!!

16-dscn5258Now it’s your turn.  Either link up by clicking the icon below, or if you don’t have a blog, list your projects in a comment, or photograph the list and put it on Instagram with the hashtag #17ufosin2017

(If you are linking up, please link to your post on 17ufosin2017 not to your home page.  Please link back to this post somewhere in yours.  And please visit other linkers – who knows you might see something there to inspire you!)

See you at the end of the month for an update!  Let’s get these UFO’s moving!!

Dear Meredith thank you so much for starting this fun project, I have linked and chosen a quilt to start on. Ive decided to not list them from 1 to 17 but choose one each 3 weeks!!!!! First 3 weeks is a quilt for a little girl in Holland who is 1 years old now. I misplaced the bottom border then when I found it other things were happening in my life and it has lain dormant now back to work on her. Many many thanks Meredith.

Hey M – I had forgotten what your strawberry parfait looked like!! – very pretty! and glad steam punk is on the list as you teased us with that on your blog for ages!! I have mulled through mine and there is a heap of sandwiching together and hand quilting!! and finishing off your template quilts!!

  3. Fiona says:

Happy New Year. I only started reading you a few months ago. I like to list my UFO’s and make a page each year… have linked to mine though I found more to add on last night!! Great to see some gorgeous projects you are doing…. Here’s to a happy UFO finishes and lots of new ones too!!! so we can do the same again next year!
    Hugz

  4. I am working on an on-point queen size quilt – almost done quilting, a dachshund wall hanging to be quilted, a Christmas log cabin santa quilt to be quilted. Most of my projects need to be quilted. A double wedding ring, 2 whole cloth wall hanging go need to be completed, a strippy quilt, a pink bow tie baby quilt, a blue bow tie baby quilt, a table runner, a wallhanging to be pieced and appliqued for my older sister, an applique quilt for my younger sister, a star quilt, and a french braid quilt as well as some placemats.

  5. curlyquilts says:

Best of luck to you on completing everything! Luckily I don’t have any UFO’s at this point but I will be writing up my own projects list for the year.

  6. Shirley Sherratt says:

I am reading and following with interest. I have always made a list but not always been good at sticking to it. Saying that, New Year and good intentions has seen me make some sort of promise to get on with it. Good luck everyone! Keep up the good work!

  7. Great idéa, but difficult to choose 17 among ???? . I will try to do it ..soon. But my first one for the year is certainly a knitting project .. “nightingale” , pattern from Isager..
And as soon as my list is done and described on my blog, I will keep you inform!

  8. Angie says:

Thanks for sponsoring the challenge – I look forward to seeing everyone’s projects and watching their progress!

  9. Today was the 2nd time that I read a blog listing this link up. While I’ve not made a list yet Kyle at Timeless Reflections made me curious enough to decide to go check out my last sewing review and see how many things I have on the list! Meanwhile I love your Steampunk…I am not using that pattern but had found an applique one to use and I have about 6 done and another prepped to work on this month.

  10. frayedattheedge says:

Good list! I have just done my post and added it to the link …… and I have visited everyone who has joined up so far – an amazing variety of UFOs!!!

  12. Deb says:

Thanks so much for this link up challenge! I had fun picking 17 projects to revisit this year

  13. I will try to gather something resembling a list, but I rather fell of the perch last week!

  14. anudge says:

So wanting to start that I made my list back in December. I’ve linked up. Thanks, Meredithe! Happy New Year!

  15. Definitely up for the challenge. My list will be a combination of UFOs and projects that have been patiently waiting in my Ravelry queue. My problem will be sock knitting leading me astray!

  16. Susan Creer says:

Hi Meredith, having a little difficulty adding my list on Instagram. Any simple instructions that would assist me. Thanks Susan Creer

  17. elainesuller says:

Thanks for organising! are you going to do regular updates on yours throughout the year?

  18. thimbleanna says:

What a great list Meredithe! (I’m happy the Aunts’ Quilt is at the top LOL!) Your projects are always so beautiful — I’m looking forward to watching your progress!

  19. marshaseiberling says:

I just ran across this linked from another blog and loved the idea! I currently have 19 items on my UFO list.
I will have to look for latest pictures to do a full post to get started, but do intend to take part.

Hopefully some time next week I can get it all together and put up my first post …or wait until the end of the month to put the post up.

  20. Carole says:

Thanks Meredithe for this great challenge. I love your philosophy of ‘making substantial progress’ rather than finishing each project. I have joined the Linky party but can’t work out how to link back to your blog from my iPad – I will do this once I can access a computer again. Looking forward to seeing more of your Aunt’s quilt and the 365 Circles.

  21. Pauline says:

I’ve just found you! And very timely, too, as I started listing WIPs when I emptied the “spare” room, because someone needed to sleep in it. I like glendajean’s idea of choosing one of the (more than) 17 projects every 3 weeks. There are 34 quilting projects (so far) and I hadn’t thought to include the knitting as well, so plenty to work with. Someone has suggested the smaller/quicker projects first, which makes sense, so there’s ticked boxes sooner :o) Pauline

  22. wendy says:

Such a great idea, thanks for hosting!

  23. Kit Dunsmore says:

I’m sure I have at least 17 UFOs in the sewing room, and another 10 in my knitting bag, but I don’t think I can hope to finish that many projects in one year. *bowing to your awesome ambition and wishing you great success*

  24. Pamela says:

I’ve just linked up with a rather ambitious list. I really want to finish some of my older WIP/UFOs! Thanks.

  25. audrey says:

Okay, I did it! Finally come up with a list I can live with!:)

  26. I’ve made the list and started I will take some pics this week and post them

  27. Joanne P says:

What a shame I’m too late to link up! I’ve been doing this challenge since 2011 when I chose my “11 in ’11” and have added an extra project each year. This year is obviously “17 in ’17”. Last year was my most successful year so far. I completed 12 of the 16 and made good progress on the other four. Here’s a link to my page showing the current 17:
    http://serendipitousstitching.blogspot.co.uk/p/wipocalypse-and-17-in-17.html

Good Luck with your 17 too.

  28. marshaseiberling says:

I thought I would stop by and leave you a link to my post covering the 17 I will work on:
    http://marshasspot.blogspot.com/2017/01/wip-wednesday-17-in-2017-challenge.html

I will try to be on the look out for the linky at the end of each month!

  29. Наталья says:

    Я тоже записываюсь. Мой список “17 в 2017” готов. Вот ссылка: https://fanydom.blogspot.ru/2017/01/17-2017.html
    Добро пожаловать!

I also recorded. My list of “17 2017” is ready. Here is the link: https://fanydom.blogspot.ru/2017/01/17-2017.html
    Welcome!

  30. Jenny Port says:

What a great idea and I would love to join in but am realistic enough to know there is no way I could finish 17 of my gazillion UFO’s but have decided on 6. Am happy to say a month in and I have finished one already – a spring cardigan I started a long time ago! Thank you for your inspiration!!!

  31. Lynette says:

Cool plan! I really like that we can count moving the project forward through a significant step, as almost all my UFOs are big, complicated quilts! I’ve just come back to blogging after an 8 month hiatus, sure would love to join in on this, but the linky is closed. Is there a way to share our list still?
