Cup weekend quilting

I’ve just spent the weekend away at Moama, celebrating the fabulous quilts that students from Heather’s Quilting Emporium have made during the year with visiting tutors, including yours truly!

Miss Helen came up as support crew, and we stayed with Miss Lynette in her beautiful home

20141105-172425.jpgThe students from my class in March came up trumps, and I’m so proud of them! The class was a 2 day workshop using my templates and here are the results!

Cheryl’s Pinwheel Hexagon (which took Cheryl right out of her comfort zone; these fabrics are not her colours and she hand pieced too!!)

20141105-172654.jpgAnne’s Airplanes

20141105-172956.jpgKay’s Ice-cream Sundae

20141105-173051.jpgAnnie’s Feathered Star (all done on the machine – can you believe it??!!)

20141105-173146.jpgand Lynette’s Dogwood (the setting for which we talked about in class, and I sent Lynette instructions for the “filler blocks”, and now I want to make one too!!)

20141105-173224.jpgDidn’t they do a splendidly?!

Of course, there had been other tutors and here’s a sampling some of their students’ work

20141105-173625.jpgI didn’t take pics of all the quilts, but here’s a few more. Lesley combined classes in this quilt

20141105-173803.jpgand even though she didn’t attend my class, she’s kindly used two of my templates, Carpenter’s Wheel

20141105-173907.jpgand Vortex

20141105-173954.jpgThis one was made by Djembe, who had her first experiment with dying fabrics, and is just 10 years old!

20141105-174043.jpgand this one from her Mum, Julie, in which Djembe helped with the colour placement!

As well as owning and running a quilt shop and classes/workshops, Heather has a long arm machine and does amazing quilting. Here’s a small sample.

Miss Helen and I had our own marquee displaying students’ work, and I also borrowed from my girlfriends, and of course, some of my own quilts!

20141105-174251.jpgand this was our view as we sat and chatted to visitors

20141105-174338.jpgWe enjoyed a cuppa and home baking

20141105-174421.jpgand as the breeze flapped the quilts, espied the fabulous raffle quilt

20141105-174524.jpgwhich, alas, I did not win!

We finished the exhibition sitting on Heather’s soft, green lawn, in unusual Spring heat, looking out over paddocks and bush, with a glass of bubbles!

PS If you’re local to the area, or can travel to partake in any of Heather’s classes next year, contact her for more information; I’m doing an Appliqué Workshop in May and a Template Workshop in July.
