Hobo Quilts Book

Look what I found the other day

20131210-114006.jpgI bought it at Can Do Books, a real live physical shop (though they do post!), which is a lovely place to visit if you live in or are visiting Melbourne.

20131210-114313.jpgEach block represents a message that hobos during the late 1800’s and early 1900’s used to help each other identify good and bad places to stay; a secret language of directions and advice

20131210-114626.jpgHaven’t read too far yet, but the symbols do make great quilt blocks!

20131210-114741.jpgCould this be (another!!) project for 2014??!!

20131210-114900.jpgLots of fun!!

I bought this book a year or so ago, isn’t it great! The history and stories reveal the codes and have inspired the blocks, fab idea. I’m sure you’ll find the time crazy lady haha!

What an interesting book to find! I’d never seen or heard of hobo quilts before. I am super digging that kitty cat block on the cover of the book!
